I enjoy most videos I watch, and learn something from them also. I am just in the process of setting up a new lathe. I would like to get into boxes etc, . I have quite a few health issues but do nejoy doing things with my hands and brain.Have wood carved for years, animals, birds and a few fish also have done a large number of masks of natives and other people.

I have been turning for about7or 8 years and I like to see what other turners are doing. I can always learn something new. I like that you narrate. I dont particularly care to watch "silent" turners. I always want to know what finishes are being used. Good videos please keep them coming

Great video and beautiful bowl! I started to watch wood turning as it was somehow so soothing on my overthinking brain. Eventually with time and opportunity I bought a school bus and have converted it into a lil wood workshop. I am still very much a newbie and watch to learn and for inspiration. I will say, something about your style (what you cut, when, where, how) is particularly pleasing on the brain! Perhaps the sped up footage helps. Makes the wood look to just fall away effortlessly! If only real-time was that easy hey? haha Now that I've done some turning myself I have new appreciation to just how much thought, skill, tools, experience etc.. goes into turning!

Thanks for sharing this video! I recently turned a practice piece of wood that ended up being quite pretty if it wasn't for the termite holes throughout. I was considering either filling them with epoxy or drilling them or opening them with rotary tool first then epoxy.. this video really helped me visualize what some of that might look like. I definitely did love the spalting!! You have a new subscriber in me from only one video watched, looking forward to more! :)

Don't use epoxy resin to make dishes you intend to eat off of. It's fine to make them if they're merely decorative, though.

Since you asked, I'm a newbie to this - started turning in January and I like watching videos like this to learn and to get ideas of things to try. I have started experimenting with resin and of course the first few tries taught me a couple of lessons but I'm getting better at it. Thanks for sharing your skills! I hope you can ignore the people who get their jollies by criticizing others. I see that on other forums a lot and I think it's just the human condition. Some people are just like that. Looking forward to your next videos.

Hi Peggy: I watched you for the first time today and subscribed. I could tell you were quite bothered by prior comments people had left. People will always comment and some just have to be judgmental. It's because they just have a bad nature. When you are critical it should be in a constructive way and aimed appropriately. You live in a great part of the country. I wish you well.

Well done! I have experienced several “Napoleon Blownaparts” over the last 40 plus years. The most important key to injury prevention is the very points you mentioned. I like your lathe choice. I am looking to bring in a 18/36 for my “retirement” shop. Turning keeps me sharp and engaged. I like to give my projects to neighbors, family, Make-A-Wish and local church groups. Keep on turning on…

I have also had a problem balancing the bowls on a tenon , but mostly when i use a worm screw. I stabilised the worm screw in the chuck jaws by turning a disc to go onto the screw and fit exactly between the jaws. This improved it a bit, but not completely. I found that when i put spur drives that had a good point in both head and tail stock, they did not meet exactly point to point. I adjusted the headstock and it appears to have made a significant difference. I really cant explain why it mattered so much but it did. Maybe someone can enlighten me?
